The Locked Door

Discernment is not cruelty.

You are allowed to close a door while you decide what is safe. You are allowed to question a story that has made someone - including a part of yourself - seem dangerous, broken, or impossible to trust.

A locked door can protect. It can also keep an old fear from being examined.

Pause long enough to learn which one is happening.

Safety does not require you to ignore your instincts. Compassion does not require immediate access.

You are the keyholder. You may protect the room and remain curious about what is on the other side.
